On the rare occasion that I get to go to the grocery store by myself, when I’m not in a rush, and when I can peruse, I really love grocery shopping. Especially somewhere like Central Market where shopping is really an experience. Their food selection is so huge and diverse, I love to spend time looking around, discovering new things. Every so often, I like to pick up a few new things to bring home. I feel like introducing new and different foods to my kids often is one of the main reasons why they are such good eaters.
There’s no recipe today, just some photos of pretty fruit that we tried this week. I haven’t been able to travel much yet in my life, but I can’t wait to be able to visit other countries and explore the food. You know how I love food!! Until then, it’s fun to expand our tastes and do what we can at home.
Dragon fruit is a member of the cactus family and is grown in Central America. It has a really mild taste and texture, like a pear, and is full of crunchy little seeds. It’s rich in antioxidants, vitamin C and B, and calcium. The seeds are a good source of omega-3 and omega-6.
The rambutan is a scary-looking little guy that comes from Southeast Asia. While it may look like a sea creature, the outside is harmless. Once the peel is removed, there’s a soft fruit interior, much like the flesh of a grape. Kind of sweet, can be a bit sour, and soft. Watch out for the seed on the inside! Take a look at all the health benefits it has!
Have you tried either of these fruits before? What should I try next?
